The 2012 LFC Women's Lacrosse Team Roster Announced!

Team boasts players from 17 states!

Head Women's Lacrosse Coach Jim Catanzaro, announced his official roster for the 2012 season today. The Foresters enter their second year of competition and will again compete in the 186 member WCLA- Division II. Last season, the Foresters completed their inaugural campaign with a record of 10-2, while senior defender CC Hayne was named a 1st team All-American.

"I am thrilled with the makeup of our team. We have a tremendous group of athletes on this team. Last year we had to develop some athletes into lacrosse players. This season, we have an even stronger team in our stick skills and ability to run. Our team is showing signs of being a great transition team that can get out and run. I am excited to see how our current skills translate to the open field game. Last season we were much more geared to the "half field" game, and getting into set pieces. This year, I believe that our skills will continue to be displayed in the fast break game. I feel that we have gotten quicker on defense, and that is going to provide us some opportunities to do some different schemes that we weren't able to do a year ago," said Catanzaro.

The team has players from 17 different states, boasting 5 from Illinois, 4 from Michigan and Massachusetts, and 2 from California and Florida. "Our roster is representative of the diversity that Lake Forest College prides itself on," commented Catanzaro.

The team returns 14 members from the inaugural team, including the top six goal scorers from the 2011 season. In 2011, the Foresters were paced by Sophomore Emily White (24) and Junior Sarah Milligan (22) in the scoring department. The Foresters were lead in assists by sophomore Amelia Lawrence (10). Other leading scorers returning for the Foresters are Caitlin Connors (15), Lawrence (15), Sarah Jonathan (9), and Danielle Leonardo (9).

Returning midfielders Amanda Forsyth and Crystal Ramirez, along with returning attack Emily Hampden-Smith look to contribute more to the Foresters as they play their second year of lacrosse. In 2011, the trio contributed a combined 10 Goals, 4 assists, and 51 ground ball pickups as coming off the bench.

On the defensive end, the Foresters will have some holes to fill with the graduation of Hayne and Sam Herron. The Foresters will look to sophomore returners Maeve Connelly and Stacey Dierking to help fill those voids.

The two goalie tandem of Jen Caldwell and Barbara Wye both return to the Foresters. Both goalies notched over 50 saves in 2011 while sharing time between the pipes.

"The core returning group have really taken steps forward. I am excited about their leadership within our program, and have enjoyed watching the younger players learn from their example," said Catanzaro.

Newcomers to the Foresters include Senior Maddie Levine, who was studying abroad last spring. The Buffalo-native made a name for herself as a member of the LFC Men's Club team her first two years on campus, prior to the women's team beginning.

Newcomers Sandi Fredericks (Fr), Brittany Rattinger (Sr), and Sarah Gilbride (So) look to make an impact for the Foresters around the goal at attack. Colorado native Lindsey Jewett looks to help the Foresters as a midfielder. Freshmen Lily Mead looks to jump into the starting lineup on the defense with transfer Michelle Sheehan (Jr) and Jacquelyn Friedrich (So). Sophomores Chelsea Thompson and Klara Nissan join the team for the first time and look to make an impact as the season progresses.

The Foresters will gain a boost from the LFC Women's Hockey team when their season ends as Freshman Laura Reckdenwald, Torey Crown, Erin Shamley, and Marissa Weber transition from the ice to the turf at Farwell Field.

The Foresters kick off the 2012 season at the Marquette Play Day on March 24th.

WCLL ANNOUNCES ALL-CONFERENCE

HAYNE AND LAWRENCE RACK UP MORE HONORS!

Freshman Amelia Lawrence and Senior CC Hayne were both named to the Women's Collegiate Lacrosse League (WCLL) Division II First-Team All-Conference team.

Hayne, a 2011 All-American on defense, scored 7 goals and recorded 5 assists on the season. She also recorded 42 ground ball pickups on the season, while leading the team with 21 interceptions. The dual sport athlete (soccer), served as a team captain for the Foresters during their inaugural season, and is a native of St. Helena, California.

Lawrence, a 2011 Academic All-American, was a starting mid-fielder for the Foresters. Despite missing the seasons first game, Lawrence lead the team with 10 assists, and recorded 15 goals. Lawrence, an Oldwick, New Jersey native, lead the team with 28 draw controls, and scooped up 36 ground balls on the season.

The Foresters finished 10-2 in their first season of competition.

MORE POST SEASON AWARDS FOR THE FORESTERS!

Freshman Amelia Lawrence (Oldwick, NJ) and Sophomore Eileen Newcomer (Winnebago, IL) were recently named Academic All-American by US Lacrosse. The award recognizes student-athletes who have above a 3.7 GPA while contributing to their teams success on and off the field.

Lawrence scored 15 goals and had 10 assists for 25 total points on the season. Her 10 assists led the team, and her 25 total points were good for third on the team.

Newcomer, in her first year as a lacrosse player, scored two goals, and had 10 ground ball pickups.

The Lake Forest Women's Lacrosse team completed their first season of competition in 2011 finishing with a 9-2 record.

Big Weekend for Senior Hayne!

After you walk across the stage at commencement, there is usually time with family for pictures, time for packing up the dorm room, and an effort to make sure that you say "good-bye" to everyone in person, among other things. In all, it is usually an emotionally overwhelming day, for most graduating seniors. For LFC Senior CC Hayne, the day after may be just as memorable for her, as she received a phone call informing her that she had been named a 2011 WCLA Division II All-American. "It was great to hear how excited CC was on the phone. I am amazed though, that I was the second person to tell her. In the small world of women's lacrosse, a player from Chapman University who was at the National Tournament (where the awards are announced) new a player on our team and recognized Lake Forest," said Coach Catanzaro. "A true showing of how deserving this honor is for CC, was the reaction that some of her teammates have been having throughout the day. The text messages, "tweets" and emails have been impressive!"

On receiving her award Hayne commented,"I am thrilled to have been awarded such an honor during the inaugural season of the LFC women's lacrosse team. It still seems so surreal to me that I earned All-American accolades. It was such a privilege to play with all of our hard-working, dedicated, and talented women, this is a season that I will never forget. I want to thank everybody who helped launch our program particularly Coach Cat and Coach Slaats who supported and believed in our potential all along the way."

The women's lacrosse team was in its first season of existence in 2011, and their first year membership in the WCLA is highlighted by their first All-American. Hayne who served as a team captain and starting defender for the Foresters. Hayne finished the season with 7 goals, 6 assists on the offensive end of the field, but it was on defense where Hayne's statistics truly stood out. She recorded 41 ground ball pickups and had 21 interceptions among her 77 caused turnovers in 12 games.

"CC was worthy on statistics alone, however, that would be short-selling the impact that she had on our team. CC took a young and very inexperienced team and held them together in the face of adversity. She also showed them a great deal about having "FUN" while playing lacrosse. On the defensive end, she was critical to our improvement throughout the season as we had at least three players who had never played lacrosse until this year. CC's ability to communicate and the respect that she gained from every individual on our team was outstanding. In addition, the coaches on other teams saw that as well, and it is incredible that she was chosen as an All-American in the first year of the program," commented Catanzaro.

The Foresters finished their season 10-2 this year, and played in the WCLL (Women's Collegiate Lacrosse League), they were among 30 teams from Pennsylvania to Wisconsin, and had the second highest winning percentage in the league, but were not eligible for the conference tournament as a first-year program.

Of the 18 players who were selected from the 182 teams in the WCLA Division II, Hayne was the only player selected who did not participate in the National Tournament in Scottsdale, Arizona this past weekend. The Division II Tournament Championship saw Chapman University defeat Towson University (Club) 9-8. Chapman finished the season a perfect 18-0.

FORESTERS CELEBRATE GRADUATION!!

The Lake Forest College Community celebrated their 133rd commencement. Among those graduating were three senior women's lacrosse players; CC Hayne (Communications), Sam Herron (Psychology/Religon), and Sherie Dubinski (Business) graced the stage.

"I was thrilled to see our three ladies walk across the stage. These young ladies were tremendous members of the Lake Forest community as a whole. Their memberships, activities, and involvements on campus truly set a very high standard," said Coach Catanzaro.

In addition to their memberships on the lacrosse team, all three girls played an additional varsity sport: Ice Hockey, Basketball, and Soccer. They worked in the Lake Forest workstudy program, were involved in sororities (Delta Gamma), studied abroad, and were actively involved in community service initiatives.

"These ladies are an outstanding representation of what students at Lake Forest can do," continued Catanzaro."Our alumni base just grew significantly stronger with their addition to it."
