Lake Forest College Sophomore Barbara “Babs” Wye, was named to the Women’s Collegiate Lacrosse Association Division II 2nd team All-American on May 9th, by US Lacrosse. The Burlington, MA native is the daughter of Felise Llano and Jonathan Wye.
Lake Forest is a member of the Women’s Collegiate Lacrosse League, a 31 team conference that competes in the 190 member Division II WCLA. Wye, was a first team all-conference selection in 2012 for the WCLL. On the season, Wye recorded a 10-2 record with 1 shutout, as she started all 12 games for the Foresters. Of goaltenders with a minimum of 10 starts, Wye finished first in Goals Against Average (8.61), second in save percentage (61%), and second in saves (137) in the WCLL. Wye has a career record of 20-4 in net for the Foresters.
Wye, a double major in Sociology/Anthropology and Communication, with a minor in Digital Media Design, was recognized as a member of the Dean’s List at Lake Forest for her academic accomplishments. “Babs” is an active campus community member, serves the College community as the President of PRIDE, is a member of Kappa Alpha Theta Fraternity, and volunteers a coach for the Illinois Girls Lacrosse Association.
Quote from Wye on being named All-American:
“I'm ecstatic to have the privilege of receiving the All-Conference and All-American awards, and thrilled that Lake Forest lacrosse has once again been recognized. As a member of the Forester Lacrosse team, I'm honored to be playing with so many talented and motivated ladies who inspire me to become the best goalie possible. I don't believe these awards would have been given however if it wasn't for the hard work of Coach Shaw and Coach Cat, who have put in hours of dedication for the love of the team. I look forward to another great season next spring, where I hope we'll win the WCLL and continue on to Nationals!”
Coach Catanzaro on Wye:
“Babs, improved significantly from her freshman year to this year. She worked extremely hard in the off-season, and I couldn’t be more proud to see her efforts rewarded by the WCLA. Our defense as a team this year improved significantly, and Babs’ leadership from the crease is one of the main reasons why. Babs is everything we hope to see in our student-athletes, and she is a dedicated Forester who we should all share in praising for this honor.”
Wye becomes the second Forester to be named to the All-American team, joining defender CC Hayne ’11 in this distinguished club.
